“Starting Out” is a 14 week discipleship course for new or young Christians. It covers the fundamental teachings of the Christian faith and assists new Christians as they make their first steps in their new walk with Christ. The course is designed to be used in a “one on one” discipling relationship. It can, however, be used just as effectively in a group or class setting. The course provides a daily Bible reading with reflection questions. The aim is for the participant to complete these daily studies throughout the week, and then meet with their discipler, or attend a group meeting, to discuss the things they have discovered and to ask questions.
I wrote this material in 1987 in response to a wave of conversions that took place over a two year period during my ministry at Engadine Church of Christ. It was published in 1988 by Churches of Christ, NSW, Department of Church Development and Education. In 1989, it was translated into Korean for use in Australian Korean churches. It continues to be used effectively in a number of churches throughout Australia.
