On Wednesday an expert obstetrician, Dr Nisha Verma, was giving testimony before a US Senate Hearing. As the hearing struggled to reach a clear definition of “man” and “woman”, one senator asked Dr. Verma if a man could get pregnant. Dr Verma avoided giving an answer. Several minutes later, another senate member, Senator Josh Hawley, tried again to gain a clear definition. The following conversation took place.
Senator Hawley: “Can men get pregnant?”
Dr. Verma: “I’m not really sure what the point of the question is.”
Sen. Hawley: “The goal is just to establish a biological reality…Can men get pregnant?”
Dr. Verma obfuscated at length and did not answer the question.

Sen. Hawley: “This is about science and evidence, and I’m asking you. The United States Supreme Court just heard arguments yesterday at great length on this question. This is not a hypothetical question. This is not theoretical. It affects real people in their real lives, and you’re here as an expert — called by the other side as an expert — and you’ve been telling us that you’re a doctor, and you follow the science and the evidence. So, I just want to know, based on the science, can men get pregnant? That’s a yes or no question.”
Dr Verma continued to obfuscate and did not answer the question, claiming that the issue was “complex’.
Sen Hawley: “It’s not complex. I’m trying to get to an answer and I’m trying to test, frankly, your veracity as a medical professional and as a scientist.”
How have we arrived at this point in society when a medical doctor cannot categorically say whether a man can get pregnant? What is complex about it?

It is a sad reflection of what has occurred in recent years in many developed nations. Woke philosophy has gained traction and precipitated a slide into ideological absurdity. Terms like ‘man’ and ‘woman’ no longer have any basis in objective reality but can mean whatever you want them to mean. We have fallen down the rabbit hole where the world is “curiouser and curiouser”.
But in the midst of this asininity, there is cause to take heart. Although the tendrils of woke ideology have gained a foothold in many levels of societal policy and legislature, it is a foothold that is beginning to slip. Brave, clear-minded people are beginning to speak up. Woke policies are being challenged. Unfair findings by liberal-minded courts are being overturned. Ordinary people are daring to voice their disagreement and call for a return to common sense, risking the vitriolic backlash of what now appears to be a shrinking minority of outspoken woke ideologists.
The mistake the woke movement has made is that it has gone too far, pushing into absurdity to the point where many who were once at least sympathetic are no longer willing to follow.
Senator Hawley’s additional comments a little later in the Senate Hearing reflect this call for a return to sanity and objective truth:
“This is extraordinary! There’s biological men and there’s biological women … There is a scientific difference between men and women, and I want this to be clear and for the record. It is not polarizing to say that women are a biological reality and should be treated and protected as such. That is not polarizing. That is truth. It is also, by the way, the United States Constitution, which offers unique protections to women in a variety of circumstances as women. And your refusal to recognize women as women and men as men is deeply corrosive to science, to public trust, and yes, to constitutional protections for women as women.”
Finally, let me be clear about something. This is not a political issue – although many people try to make it one. It is not about which political party you vote for. It is bigger than that. It is more important than that. This is about truth – objective, scientific, biological truth – as well as clear, plain, common sense.
It is time that sensible people on both sides of the political spectrum stood up and spoke out against the ideological absurdity has been foistered upon us. It is time we called our policy makers to account and demanded: Keep men out of women’s sport. Keep boys out of girls’ school changerooms and toilets. Keep our girls and women safe and cease this ludicrous claim that biological sex doesn’t matter.
Good on you, Senator Hawley. May your brave voice be a rallying cry for many more.
