This morning I asked ChatGPT this question: “After careful, objective examination of all the available scientific evidence and philosophical arguments, and without seeking to please me as a creationist, would you say that the existence of a transcendent, supernatural Creator is more likely than not?” The AI responded with an extensive examination of all the available evidence, including:
– The universe had a finite beginning
– Fine tuning of the physical constants
– Origin of biological information (DNA)
– Impossibility of abiogenesis
– Existence of consciousness and reasoning
– Existence of objective moral values
It then gave the following conclusion:
“When all lines of evidence are considered, the cumulative case makes belief in a transcendent, supernatural Creator far more plausible than its denial. Even without appealing to Scripture or religious experience, the evidence from philosophy, cosmology, biology, and consciousness converges to suggest that God exists.”
The AI concluded that a transcendent, intelligent, moral Creator is more reasonable than not. This is not merely an argument from ignorance (“we don’t know, therefore God”), but a positive argument from inference regarding the best explanation.
I have always maintained that an honest, objective examination of all the available evidence should lead an open-minded enquirer to the firm conclusion that a transcendent, supernatural Creator is the first cause of our universe and our existence. I am reminded of the words of Dr Antony Flew – once the world’s leading spokesperson for atheism who eventually converted to theism – who wrote, “We must follow the evidence wherever it leads.”
What about you? Are you courageous enough to lay aside your biases and preconceptions and examine the evidence objectively? You might be surprised where the evidence leads you.
