As well as equipping Christians to better understand and defend their faith, Smartfaith also aims to help those who are struggling to believe, by pointing to the overwhelming evidence for the existence of God from a variety of disciplines, including science, history and philosophy. Max Born, the German physicist, who won the Nobel Prize for Science in 1954, said; "Those who say that the study of science must make a person an atheist must be rather silly people."

The Christian faith is overwhelmingly supported by the physical and philosophical sciences. Recent developments in cosmology, genetics, paleontology, physics and bio-molecular science have resulted in a significant shift within the scientific community towards belief in a theistic first cause for the origin of the universe. Although this paradigm shift is not always reflected in popular media, the concept of intelligent design is gaining significant momentum within academic circles.

Dr Robert Jastrow, astronomer, astrophysicist and founder of NASA’s Goddard Institute of Space Studies, states, “Astronomers now find that they have painted themselves into a corner because they have proven, by their own methods, that the world began abruptly in an act of creation to which you can trace the seeds of every star, every planet, every living thing in this cosmos and on the earth. And they have found that all this happened as a product of forces they cannot hope to discover…. That there are what I or anyone would call supernatural forces at work is now, I think, a scientifically proven fact.”

The second aim of SmartFaith.net is to challenge the presuppositions and arguments made by sceptics. Many of the resources on this website provide responses to the common questions and objections raised against Christianity, and propose strong, evidence-based arguments for the existence of God and the truth of the Gospel.

“Rethinking the Gospel” is a profoundly challenging exploration of the modern church’s proclamation of the gospel. It examines an element of the gospel that has been largely ignored or under-emphasised since the start of the Reformation in the 1500’s. In the modern church's rush to present salvation as a free gift, it has under-emphasised the necessity of  repentance and ongoing submission to the Lordship of Christ – a theme that was a central tenet of Jesus’ teaching. This book will challenge you to re-examine your understanding of the gospel in the light of Jesus' consistently confronting teaching on the relationship between faith and obedience.

One reviewer commented: “Every church pastor, preacher and Christian should read this book! It has transformed my understanding of the gospel.”

Another reviewer commented: “This is a devastating and eye-opening commentary on the blight that has infiltrated the modern church. It is a wake-up call that desperately needs to be heard.”

"The Little Book of Church Leadership" highlights a crisis of leadership within the modern church; not an absence of leadership, but a proliferation of the wrong kind of leadership. The modern church has departed from the collaborative leadership principles of the New Testament and has adopted a secular business model that is undermining the very essence of what it means to be God’s people. The contemporary emphasis upon the paid minister as the vision-casting leader and entrepreneurial professional is a far cry from the kind of shared pastoral leadership that was instigated and modelled by the first century church. This book points us back to the New Testament principles of collaborative church leadership and mutual accountability that were set in place in the very beginning and which are God's continued design for His people today.

This is a little book with BIG ideas. It calls the church to radically re-think the roles of clergy and laity and return to the biblical principles laid down by the New Testament church. It calls for a culture shift that will not be easy. Are you ready to be challenged?
